Hic et Nunc Monumento Barbera del Monferrato Superiore 2018

Piedmont, ItalyHic et Nunc is from from the Latin 'Here and Now', and devoted to making wines from their home in Monferrato, in northwestern Italy's Piemonte. Of their 100 hectares of arable lands, woods and poplar groves, 20 hectares are dedicated to local vines, and the are entirely estate, organically managed, on clay limestone soils. Monumento is the name of their Barbera Superiore, coming off their oldest vineyards (Bossola and Vasco) on the Mongetto hill around 250m, on marl clay soils. This was fermented / macerated one month in stainless before 12 months in steel followed by 15 months in French barrels. The dusky, sultry nose is thick with perfumed black florals, thorny wild blackberry, pipe tobacco, smoked stone, toasted wood filling out a full, plumped, 15% palate. Acidity is buzzy bright, easily lofting this bigger red to a baking spiced finish. This is ready to handle your richer braised beef / lamb dishes now, or after a couple more years in the cellar.Tasted: 29 July 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
