Feudo Maccari Saia 2018

Sicily, ItalySette Ponte owner Antonio Moretti and his daughter Monika pieced together 30 small properties in the Noto area of Sicily and now have 120ha of land and some 50ha of vineyard planted at Feudo Maccari. Saia takes its name from the irrigation channels the Moors built in the 9th and 10th Centuries, and this cuvée is a selection of the best fruit and barrels on the property. It is a stylish Sicilian red with quite a fragrant nose and an approachable spicy, black fruit entry perfectly balanced by a rush of red cherry, dried herbs, dark chocolate and a harmonious brush of oak. The vines are currently 30 to 40 years old and sit over a volcanic mix of white sand, stones, and chalk. More of a steak or roast beef red.
