South Australia, AustraliaEntry level wine has always played an essential part in my quality calculations regarding the measure of any winery. At Yalumba, the Y Series consists of 11 wines, and one of the best is the Viognier. With the most extensive planting of viognier on the planet, Yalumba winemaker Louisa Rose has a virtual playground of vines to choose from. In the case of the Y, she blends fruit across Southern Australia. The key is there is no giant tank. Instead, each parcel is natively fermented, bringing the necessary prerequisite to the blend: white flowers, apricot nectar, bright acidity, and zest. I love the fresh and peppery style with crunchy green melon, lemon pith, and subtle apricot flavours. It would also work with Asian chicken dishes or as the perfect foil for vegetable pan dishes.Tasted: 05 May 2022Tasted by: Prices:

South Australia, AustraliaCredited with reviving and re-introducing a dying-off grape, Yalumba now has the greatest plantings of viognier in the world. This, their standard bearer viognier cuvée (in a brand new slick label), blends fruit from across Southern Australia, each parcel native fermented, with time in stainless. This vintage is lean and green edged, with ample lemon verbena, hedge, white pepper, green melon, gooseberry, and subtle lashings of the grape's characteristic apricot. Crunchy on the sides, but slick on the palate, this youthful wine is disjointed at this time, but would make a fine companion for Vietnamese / Thai curries.Tasted: 05 May 2022Tasted by: Prices:
