LaStella Allegretto Merlot Pie Franco 2019
Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAllgretto is not your typical Okanagan merlot. There's tanker loads of that, mostly not needing your attention. However, this special merlot, from east bench Osoyoos' Le Faucon vineyard and its distinct sandy, white silica soils, was planted in the early 1990s, and certainly deserves seeking out. The pie franco in the name signals that the vines are planted on their own rootstock (piè franco). Wild black plum, thorny wild blackberry is poised taut, with a fine, slender architecture lined with grippy/gritty tannins, finishing with shimmering salinity.
