LaStella Allegretto Merlot Pie Franco 2014

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAllegretto is one hundred percent merlot from Stagg's Vineyard, a white silica sand site in Osoyoos' east bench. The pie franco in the name signals that the vines are planted on their own rootstock (piè franco). This is a lovely showing of merlot, with a bright acidity, pixellated texture, and fine, grippy tannins. Cassis, plum, crushed stones, savoury tobacco, sinew is threaded with anise. Seemingly light on its feet, but with layers of interwoven complexity and depth to root it, this is a very special wine of place. Drinking very well now, and will reward with cellaring.Tasted: 15 August 2018Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
