Nichol Vineyard Old Vines Syrah 2019

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is the oldest syrah in Canada, planted in 1990/91 on granite bedrock at the end of the Naramata Bench. After destemming, this fermented on skins in large open top fermenters before being basket pressed to neutral French barrique where it remained until March 2021, when it was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Waves of black pepper and cured meats waft from the glass, followed by brooding black cherry, black plum, thorns, and dark earth. Tannins are firm but fine, housing this to a peppery, balsamic-kissed finish. Ample freshness throughout, thanks to altitude, soils, and the smart 2019 vintage. Try with a light chill.Tasted: 03 August 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
