Summerhill Pyramid Winery Organic Syrah 2019
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis syrah (tipped with 5% cabernet sauvignon) comes off Osoyoos' organically farmed Sehkon Family Vineyard. This was fermented in a 10,000L oak foudre before being racked into neutral oak barrels where it rested one year before bottling. Roasted meats, charred wood, campfire smoke rules this grippy, grainy red, feeling much bigger beyond its 12.3%. A tart spike of cranberry acidity works to fight this smoky heft, leaving the whole somewhat disjointed, and bound by grainy, disjointed tannins.
