Culmina Family Estate Syrah 2018
Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom their Golden Mile Bench estate vineyard's high altitude Arise Bench, Culmina's inaugural syrah has seen 16 months in French oak (25% new). The wood treatment dominates this savoury wine, muting out the grape's inherent florality and even much black fruit. Instead, this is a brooding, muscular, full-bodied red with some muddled black fruit, stewed black plums, black earth, espresso, smoked salted meats. Tannins are gritty and finish with a bitter edge. This wine has lost the charm of the grape.
