Streaks of oxidation show its age, and the over-ripeness of the fruit. Tannins are still ample and somewhat gritty, drawing this to a warming, brown spiced finish. Gold Hill Cabernet Franc 2016

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaA power red that opens with an intense, dried leaf nose reminiscent of many cabernet francs raised in cooler climates. Perhaps a bit too much heat stunted the ripening, but it is cabernet franc, and a bit of greenness is always tolerated by the enthusiasts. The palate is both ripe and oaky with a glycerol-like texture that powers through to a spicy finish. A bit of a bruiser, this is best served with grilled lamb or venison. Gold Hill Cabernet Franc 2016

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is a high octane cabernet franc that shows concentrated, jammy fruit with pungent dried herbs. The extended hang time seems to have concentrated some of the green characters, suggesting some raisining on the vine (similar to an appassimento-style wine). The fruit intensity allows the wine to carry the oak, with the high alcohol easily giving the palate a suave, glycerous character.
