Monteraponi Chianti Classico 2018

Tuscany, ItalyFrom the southern parts of the cooler, forest-fringed Radda commune, in the central east of Chianti Classico, and on sandy / sandstone / calcareous marls, Monteraponi, has been owned by the current family since the 1960's, though the site has been occupied since the 10th century. This CC Annata is from certified organic vineyards 450-570m, and vines 15 years old. Predominantly sangiovese, this has 5% canaiolo tipped into the mix for additional fragrance and welcoming early drinkability. After a native ferment in concrete, this macerated on skins for 3+ weeks prior to aging in larger French and Slavonian oak for 16 months. It went back into concrete to firm and settle before bottling without fining or filtration. This certainly is fragrant with an alluring plum and cherry purity, an a fine grained expansiveness on the medium-bodied (13.5%) palate, afforded by the finely textured mix of soils. Tannins are long, fine, and whisper grippy, courting the bright, silken palate to a lingering, mineral finish. A lovely, finessed, and feminine red, ready for drinking now but with a few years ahead.Tasted: 10 September 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
