Casale del Giglio Matidia Cesanese 2017

Lazio, ItalyMatidia, who held the title of Augusta, was the niece of Emperor Trajan, and mother in law of Emperor Hadrian. When she passed in 119, Hadiran proclaimed her a deity. A temple in Rome's Campt Marzio was dedicated to her, in a part of Rome, where the owners of Casale del Giglio began their career. This cesanese comes from 30-year-old vines on volcanic limestone soils, at 500m. After a cold maceration and ferment in stainless, this was partially aged in oak tonneaux with the remainder in stainless, for one year. Perfumed plum, wild blackberry, wild blueberry runs the delicate, long palate, scented with black tea and star anise, and framed with fine, lengthy tannins.Tasted: 25 July 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
