Mission Hill Compendium 2016

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWinemaker Darryl Brooker's aim with Compendium is to create an ageworthy cabernet sauvignon-dominant blend that's not overly fruit forward. The 2016 vintage is 38/38/24 cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cabernet franc, which is predominantly sourced from Mission Hill's Osoyoos vineyards. This is quite savoury, almost reminiscent of youthful Left Bank Bordeaux, with graphite and herbs alongside bright black fruits. Brooker dialled back the new oak and went for less extraction when he took over the Compendium program, and both changes have paid off here. The fruit is front and centre and the tannins are fine and plush. Excellent now, but, yes, it will get better with time in the cellar.Tasted: 19 September 2020Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss and Anthony GismondiPrices:
