Valle de Uco, Tunuyán, Central Region, Mendoza, ArgentinaThe name Michel Rolland can bring certain prejudices or preconceived notions. The stereotype, infamously captured in Mondovino, is that he produces Parker-ized wines, but that's certainly not the case here. It's not shy on ripe, nicely defined fruit, ranging from black to blue, but it's really quite elegant and savoury, with cedar and floral aromatics. It speaks to skilled winemaking, but it also speaks to malbec, the dominant grape variety in the blend, and Mendoza, more generally. Highly recommended and a steal at this price.Tasted: 27 February 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Valle de Uco, Tunuyán, Central Region, Mendoza, ArgentinaMichel Rolland, the world-renowned Bordeaux winemaker, partnered with other Bordeaux families to develop seven vineyards on 2,000 acres in the Uco Valley of Mendoza. The plan was to have an "ambassador" wine made with fruit drawn from across the project that Rolland would put together each year. Today Clos de los Siete is a blend of malbec, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah and a little petit-verdot and cabernet franc. The styling is all Bordeaux, and it is polished and elegant. It represents France and Argentina's best, offering restraint and rich, powerful black fruit with a strong sense of terroir. The tannins are dense but supple and will only disappear as time slips away. It's a delicious wine at a fair price that you need to decant at the moment or that you can cellar for five to seven more years until it reaches its peak.Tasted: 02 September 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Valle de Uco, Tunuyán, Central Region, Mendoza, ArgentinaFrom Canton de Tunuyàn, in Vistaflores, Valle de Uco, the posh 2017 Michel Rolland-led Clos de la Siete is a blend of 52% Malbec, 21% Merlot, 15% Syrah, 7% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. The grapes were grown on clay / sand soils at 1100m. Post-ferment, this spent 11 months in 70 % in French oak (1/3 new), with the remainder in stainless vats, until bottling, without fining or filtration. Smooth as silk, with ample perfumed violets, iris, ripe blueberries showing malbec's dominance in the blend. Right behind is a hug of plummy merlot, before the structure of cabernet sauvignon chimes in with some medicinal cherry notes. This is meant for drinking now, upon release, but will certainly suit short term cellaring. Whenever you crack, grilled beef and veg needs be on the menu, as intended.Tasted: 20 September 2020Tasted by: Prices:
