Clos du Soleil Estate Reserve Red

Clos du Soleil Estate Reserve Red 2016

Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Estate Reserve is the king of reds at Clos du Soleil. Only 96 cases were made in 2016, perhaps the finest vintage ever for BC reds. The grapes are farmed following biodynamic principles en route to organic certification. This blend is a 33/32/20/12/3 mix of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, petit verdot, and malbec. Each variety is fermented on its own and spends 18 months in French oak barrels before the cuvée is put together. This wine has the potential to wow the wine world from the get go, thanks to its savoury, complex aromas of cassis and desert scrub. The palate is alive, not to mention electric, boasting multiple layers of black cherries, plums, and graphite, and great acidity before dense, sweet, rounded tannins fill in the finish. Impressively balanced at the beginning of its life, this wine will age gracefully for 25 years. It’s bottled without fining or filtration to stay whole.Tasted: 05 September 2020Tasted by: Prices: BC 53.00 winery direct Producer: Clos du Soleil WineryDistributors: Select Wines & Spirits
