The presence of graphite and crushed gravel minerality confirms its origin in Similkameen, while the French oak adds cigar box and toasty notes that are well-integrated. Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaClos du Soleil Estate Reserve is the winery flagship and a Similkameen statement red. The fruit comes from two Keremeos estate vineyards: Clos du Soleil Estate Vineyard, and Clos du Soleil La Côte Vineyard. The blend is 31% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot, 19% malbec, 14% cabernet franc, and 11% petit verdot. The fruit is gently handled and gravity fed into concrete fermentation tanks, fermented using only native yeast, and matured in French oak barrels for 18 months. Look for a cedar black raspberry nose with desert brush notes. The palate mixes minerals, wet stones, dark chocolate, wild red and black fruits dusted in Similkameen desert scrub. Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Estate Reserve is the top tier of estate wines from Clos du Soleil, showcasing their Upper Bench vineyards. This year's edition blends 31% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot, 19% malbec, 14% cabernet franc, and 11% petit verdot, each harvested and native fermented separately in concrete tanks before aging 18 months in French barrels, prior to the final blend. This was bottled, unfined and unfiltered. Fragrant raspberry, wild cherry, scrubby rosemary and thyme are woven throughout this savoury, fuller red, fresh with a brisk, stony acidity, and shaped with long, finely grippy tannins through a ferrous, saline finish.
