Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyIn Montalcino's south/southwest area, this site is situated between Poggio all Mura and Sant Angelo in Colle, on a clay/limestone laced plateau at 300m. From the very challenging 2014 vintage, this had to be managed carefully and strategically. This was native fermented and macerated for 2 weeks in steel and cement, before ageing two years in French oak of various sizes. Soft in the mouth, this is fading now, with autumnal fruit, pulling through sticky tannins, through to the warming, brown spiced finish. Ready to drink now, ideally with roast pork or root veg dishes.Tasted: 29 November 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyThe vineyards of Tenuta di Argiano stretch southwest from the town of Montalcino, on a hill above the river Orcia. At 48 hectares, it's a fabulous size to produce a small amount of wine living up to the less is more philosophy. Argiano's southern exposure has always given it a bigger, more opulent frame. Still, with new research and work by Chilean terroir specialist Pedro Parra and Italian wine consultant Alberto Antonini, Argiano is gaining in elegance and style. 2014 is just such a wine in a so-so vintage that presents with less black fruit in favour of lighter, more ethereal red fruit nuances. Flowers and red cherries are mixed with notes of cedar and earth. A solid effort that makes you think of food from the first sip. Grilled beef, lamb, or roast pheasant come quickly to mind.Tasted: 17 July 2020Tasted by: Prices:
