Château de Pierreux Brouilly Reserve de Chateau 2017

Brouilly, Beaujolais Villages, Beaujolais, Burgundy, FranceChâteau de Pierreux sits at the base of Beaujolais' Mont Brouilly, and as my soil scientist pal Pedro Parra taught me, “if you want to know what is below the ground you first have to look up.” The 103-hectares of 40 to 45-year old gamay vines are sitting on a mix of decomposing red granite and schist. Can you say minerality or soul? The nose has an attractive black fruit demeanour; the attack is more significant than you might expect although the tannins are supple and the texture creamy. Best of all is its stony, floral, black fruit that hop from the glass. The French love this style with fresh herbed goat cheese or roast chicken.Tasted: 26 July 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
