Sequel Syrah 2014
Columbia Valley, Washington, United StatesAfter his time at Penfolds Grange, winemaker John Duval chose the Columbia Valley and Long Shadows for his “Sequel” and continuation of his life-long association with syrah/shiraz. Duval takes full advantage of his Oz training in blending fruit from The Benches at Wallula, Alder Ridge, Red Mountain and Yakima Valley. The latest Sequel is the most elegant yet, not light, but seamlessly put together. The nose is a meaty mix of black cherries and smoked meats with bitter chocolate, black licorice and savoury, blueberry flavours. This aged an average of 18 months in 65 percent new French oak barrels, leaving tannins yet to shed, but this is a remarkable effort. Roast lamb will be required to slay this beast.Tasted: 11 October 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:US | $60.00 | 750ml | US |
