Quails' Gate Stewart Family Reserve Pinot Noir 2014

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe flagship pinot at Quails’ Gate is estate grown on the volcanic slopes of the Mount Boucherie bench. The mix of pinot clones are now somewhere between 12 and 29 years old and frankly are just beginning to stretch their legs. The 2014 was hand-picked and cold soaked for several days before the spontaneous ferment began. It’s barrel aged 10 months in French oak, of which about half is new. What we like most about this wine is how the intensity and purity of former winemaker Grant Stanley has been given a coating of elegance and finesse. The result is a complex offering of red fruits, that in this warm year are mixed with sweet notes of clove and nutmeg. Balanced, long, silky and complex, this is a fun wine to try now but will only improve over the next five years in bottle. One of the best yet from Quails’ Gate and a beacon for BC Pinot Noir.Tasted: 15 December 2016Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
