John Duval Plexus 2008

Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaMostly fine weather until March, then a heat wave with several days over 35C marks a vintage of two halves in '08. For all its foibles the '08 is sweeter than the '07 looking more like the magnificent '06. Opulence is one word that jumps out of the glass but with ample tannins and weight. The grenache especially leaps from the glass but the classy oak treatments and big spice in the back end tends to settle it all down. Winemaker John Duval likes this wine's ageing potential thinking it will be drinkable in two to four years but not likely to peak for another seven to ten years.Tasted: 20 September 2011Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
