Warre's Vintage Port 2007

Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalThe 2007 vintage is the first at Warre made entirely from owned fruit. Quinta do Retiro in the Rio Torto has been in the mix for more than 100 years but was purchased in 2006. Similarly Quinta da Telhada in the Douro Superior was added in 2006 to join the centrepiece Cavadinha estate. The result is perhaps the best Warre we have tasted in years. Look for a spicy floral, black cherry, plum jam nose with aromatic, liquorice notes with chocolate bits in the back. Rich, full and warm with fine acidity and sweetness and structured but smooth tannins. Big with finesse and intense liquorice, chocolate, peppery, floral, blackberry and plum flavours. Very round, supple, high acidity finish and juicy yet firm - a fist in velvet. Certainly one of the finest from this estate.Tasted: 13 November 2009Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
