Marqués de Riscal Rioja Reserva 1997

Rioja Alavesa, Rioja, SpainThe 97 Reserva has just arrived in the market and is 90 per cent tempranillo mixed with graciano and mazuelo. All Riscal reservas are made from older vines aged between 15 and 30 years of age. The wine also spends two years in American oak barrels. Look for the characteristic open, spicy, American oak nose with sweet vanilla and plummy fruit flavours. This is a complex red that balances fruit, acidity and tannin in a manner that makes it very food-friendly. Grill lamb comes to mind as the perfect match.Tasted: 01 March 2000Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
