Bellingham The Bernard Series Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2022

Coastal Region, South AfricaNamed for Bellingham's founder, Bernard Podlashuk, this chenin comes from 3 Coastal Region vineyards (Agter-Paarl, Stellenbosch, and Cape Town), and bush vines over 35 years, thus all Certified Heritage Vineyards. The vineyards were each whole bunch pressed, and aged 1 year in French oak (50% new, 50% 2nd fill) with regular bâtonnage. Quite wood forward, with ample volume of lemon curd, patisserie, and peach butter filling the full palate, seasoned with toast and lingering with vanilla. Thankfully there's a wave of acidity to ride, keeping it food-friendly for richer dishes. Always a powerful, confident wine and the 2022 is no exception. It was native fermented in a mix of 32% new French oak, 30% second fill barrels, 30% foudre, and 8% in amphora.Tasted: 14 October 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
