Bellingham The Bernard Series Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2024
Coastal Region, South AfricaNamed for Bellingham's founder, Bernard Podlashuk, this chenin hails from Durbanville, Cape Town, and dry farmed bush vines planted in 1983 on shale and granite. It was harvested in two phases: the first batch (30%) was native fermented in older French oak; while the later, riper portion ferments in 1st (35%) and 2nd-fill (35%) French oak. Post-ferment, the wine rests on lees with monthly bâtonnage for 10 months. Concentrated lemon curd, green apple, and fresh hazelnuts flood a structural, juicy palate, flecked with flint and flake salts that linger long on the finish. This wine, a SA classic, has focused and tightened considerably over the years, and the 2024 is the best I've tasted yet.Tasted: 19 November 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:| BC | $30.00 | 750ml | private wine stores |
