Bellingham The Bernard Series Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2019
Coastal Region, South AfricaA complete chenin from four Coastal Region vineyards planted on 35 to 47 year old bush vines. It's wild fermented in a mix of new and old oak and amphora. It's the depth of colour and flavours here that set it apart from the normal. The palate is green with salty, grassy underbrush, refined acid, and oak to balance. It's already showing some power, but you can expect it to put on weight and improve in the bottle for the next few years with ease. Fine quality here and capable of matching a wide array of seafood, chicken, squash, and zucchini dishesTasted: 12 August 2022Tasted by: Prices:
Bellingham The Bernard Series Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2019
Coastal Region, South AfricaNamed for Bellingham's founder, Bernard Podlashuk, this chenin comes from 4 Coastal Region vineyards and bush vines between 35 and 47 years. It was native fermented in a mix of 32% new French oak, 30% second fill barrels, 30% foudre, and 8% in amphora. From the excellent 2019 vintage, this is still showing some youthful tightness, with green hedgerow and tight herbal lemon leading a medium palate of verbena, flake salts, scrubby fynbos, finishing with potent salinity and propped by firm wood. Compared to past years, this is surprisingly streamline, but will soon relax into its characteristically powerful self.Tasted: 02 March 2022Tasted by: Prices:
