Tantalus Old Vines Riesling 2022
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe key aspect of this wine is its consistent tension, year after year. The colour presents a pale straw/yellow hue. The aromas are an elegant combination of delicate white flowers, fresh lime, and orchard blossoms. The palate exhibits vibrant texture with intense nectarine and lemon that transition into a mineral finish. This wine has exceptional aging potential. The 2022 vintage has received widespread acclaim from winegrowers throughout the Okanagan. Consequently, all the old block rieslings (Clone 21B) planted at Tantalus in 1978 made the final mix for the 2022 vintage. Most of the wine originates from Block 5, a two acre parcel bordered by ten acres of mature ponderosa pines on its western and northern edges. These towering pines provide shade in the late afternoon and evening, slowing the ripening process in late summer and early autumn and gradually allowing the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. The ’22 Old Vines OVR was harvested on October 14 and 15, fermented over 45 days, bottled in late winter, and aged for two years before release. For the wine geeks interested in the technical specifications, the residual sweetness is 7.1 g/L; pH 2.81; Total Acidity 10.1 g/L.Tasted: 18 April 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $43.50 | 750ml | winery direct, select private wine shops and restaurant |
