Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaCélestiale has always been a lighter, early drinking Clos du Soleil red wine, with one foot in Bordeaux tradition and one foot in the reality of the wild, windy Similkameen. The ‘22 is a nice jump up in quality over the ‘21. It is an unabashed Bordeaux blend mixing 44% merlot, 25% cabernet franc, 22% cabernet sauvignon, 5% malbec and 4% petit verdot. The fruit is fresh and ripe, pitching a mix of raspberry and blackberry blended in concrete seamlessly, preserving all the fruit. The grapes are all handled separately and fermented in concrete before spending 15 months in French oak barrels, but with only 13% new. Even then, only the best barrels made the final blend. Richer beef or lamb dishes work here. Good value.Tasted: 10 February 2025Tasted by: Prices:

Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaCélestiale is the little sibling to Clos du Soleil's icon Signature red. Theoretically, you can enjoy this one now (signal screwcap) while waiting for Signature to mature. The 2022 blends 44% merlot, 25% cabernet franc, 22% cabernet sauvignon, 5% malbec, and 4% petit verdot from vineyards in Keremeos and Cawston. Smouldering blackberry, cassis, perfumed violets, and earthy thorns floods a juicy, full palate, with supple / sticky tannins to frame, and a scrubby rosemary note to scent the espresso finish. The tannins would be best met with grilled meats / root veg at this point, but should tame some with a little time in your cellar.Tasted: 18 April 2025Tasted by: Prices:
