Davis Bynum Pinot Noir 2022
Russian River, Sonoma County, California, United StatesWinemaker Greg Morthole is the gatekeeper of the historic Davis Bynum labels, and his latest pinot noir, 2022, is a star. It is a blend of clones 115, 667, 777, Pommard, and Wente from four Russian River Valley vineyards: River West and Preston Vineyard in the warm northern area known as Middle Reach; as well as two Dutton Ranch vineyards located in the cool Green Valley. The nose is an enticing combination of exotic and floral spices mixed with red cherry and silky tannins. It spends 15 months in 46% new French and European oak. Morthole tempers the Russian River power, looking for a more subtle New World pinot style. The alcohol is 14.5%, more than the Russian River normal, but everything is balanced. Grilled salmon, mushroom pasta, chicken, and pork all work here. We enjoyed it with an Asian marinated grilled mahi mahi.Tasted: 18 January 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $42.99 | 750ml | select private retailers |
