Rocca delle Macie Roccato 2020
Tuscany, ItalyHeavy bottle. Historically Roccato has been a Super Tuscan blend of sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon, but has now become 100 percent the latter. This oozes cabernet character, albeit interpreted through a Tuscan lens, with a real sense of both variety and place. Cassis, brambles, and dried herbs are accented by savoury sandalwood, game, and oak spice from aging in barriques. It's surprisingly approachable now, with firm, sinewy tannins that will continue to age gracefully over the next 5-7 years.
