Painted Rock Red Icon 2021

Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRed Icon is Painted Rock's flagship red. In a challenging year that included a heat dome, wildfire smoke, and drought restricted yields, the winery has done a fine job ensuring the flagship is at the level it needs to be. The fruit is all estate, coming off the winery’s mature Skaha Bench vineyard in a 41/23/16/12/8 merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, malbec, petit verdot blend. It doesn’t have the poise of Oculus, but a richness and savoury note makes it an attractive option at about a 60% discount. Look for blackcurrant and smoky dried herbs with a slight tug of tannins, expected in a dry year like ‘21. It doesn’t have the architecture to go long in the bottle, but it should be a solid bottle at seven years old.Tasted: 14 November 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
