Painted Rock Red Icon 2018

Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaNot quite up to 2017, the latest Icon is still very cool, calm, and collected, showing fewer aromatics but no less concentration of flavours. The nose is quiet, the attack filled with red (cassis), black (cherry), before hitting the back of the palate with a hint of brown spice. Again its Euro stying kicks in after ageing 18 months in 30 percent new oak. The current mix is 54 merlot and 14 cabernet franc, with 11/11/8 cabernet sauvignon, malbec, and petit verdot. There is no syrah in the blend this year, and I hope that continues. Like last year, the texture is measured and elegant, and when combined with acidity and structure, it is clear this Icon will age effortlessly and improve a decade and beyond. Still a baby, we must be patient.Tasted: 13 March 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
