Blue Mountain Blossom Slope Chardonnay Single Vineyard Block 17 2022
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaBlock 17 Blossom Slope Chardonnay faces to the west, giving the 32 year old vines (planted to clones 76, 95, and 96) a warm home in a relatively cool climate. The Okanagan Falls soils are coarse and loamy sand that have proven well suited to chardonnay, creating a more structured mineral-based wine. The nose mixes orchard blossom scents, hence the label moniker. On the palate, lemon and wet stone flavours lose little intensity to 18 months of barrel aging but instead put on a bit of weight, spice, and roundness. It makes it attractive for many who like a bit of brightness and richness in their 13% alcohol chardonnay. Technically, the wine growing is detailed but straightforward. There is manual thinning and crop yields are low. All the fruit is hand harvested, whole cluster pressed, and fermented with native yeast. The finished wine spends 18 months in new to three year old French oak barrels. And in the end, it's racked off his fine lees and sent to bottle.Tasted: 09 September 2024Tasted by: Prices:BC | $50.00 | 750ml | winery direct, private wine shops |
