Blue Mountain Blossom Slope Chardonnay Single Vineyard Block 17 2020
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaBlock 17 Blossom Slope Chardonnay faces to the west giving the 30 year old vines a warm home in a relatively cool climate. The soils are coarse and loamy sand, which seemed to have an affinity for chardonnay, creating a more structured mineral-based wine. The wine growing is detailed but straightforward. There is manual thinning, and crop yields are low. Vinification is similar. All of the fruit is hand harvested, whole cluster pressed, and fermented with native yeast. The wine spends 18 months in new to three year old French oak barrels. And in the end, it's racked off his fine lees and sent to bottle. Look for citrus and wet stone in this wine, but there's also a honeyed undercarriage from that westerly exposure. It makes it attractive for many who like a bit of brightness and richness in their chardonnay. The key to this is a perfectly balanced wine with 13% alcohol.Tasted: 21 April 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $50.00 | 750ml | winery direct, private wine shops |
