Rodney Strong Brothers Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesRetasted six months down the road, and as expected, it is showing little evolution. The Brothers opens with a rich jacket of black and blue fruits streaked with balsamic, chocolate, and savoury notes. Seeing more complexity and length in this wine is encouraging as winemaker Justin Seidenfeld settles into the job, and the vines mature. It is still just a toddler, but the tannins are sweet, soft, and dense. Many will now rush to buy and drink it. Let’s hope some grilled beef is involved. For the more patient, it will age well into 2028 and beyond. Brothers Vineyard, 141 acres of loam over sandstone, shale, and ancient greenstone, sits in the hills east of the small town of Cloverdale. It is primarily planted to cabernet sauvignon, with only a small amount of malbec in the ground at the top. The vineyard is on well drained loam. Its elevations, surpassing 1,000 feet and primarily pitching a western aspect, perfectly situate the vines to capture the full warmth and light of the afternoon sun, ripening cabernet well into the chocolate and black fruit profile with exceptional richness. 2019 was a home run vintage in Northern California. Sonoma County began with late winter/early spring rains that saturated the water table. Early spring heat days prepared the grapes to take on an August heat wave, which resulted in fabulous phenolic ripeness across the board. The wine spent 2 years in new French oak barrels.Tasted: 17 January 2025Tasted by: Prices:
