Rodney Strong Brothers Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesBrothers opens with a rich overcoat of black and blue fruits and balsamic, chocolate, savoury notes that combine to add complexity to ripe California wine. This wine is just a baby, although many will rush to buy and drink it now. Let’s hope some grilled beef is involved. For the more patient, it will age well into 2028 and beyond. Brothers Vineyard, 141 acres of loam over sandstone, shale, and ancient greenstone, sits in the hills east of the small town of Cloverdale. It is primarily planted to Cabernet Sauvignon with only a small amount of Malbec in the ground at the very top. The vineyard is on well drained loam. Its elevations, surpassing 1,000 feet, and primarily western aspect perfectly situate the vines to capture the full warmth and light of the afternoon sun, ripening Cabernet well into the chocolate and black fruit profile with exceptional richness. 2019 was a home run vintage in Northern California. Sonoma County began with late winter/early spring rains that saturated the water table. Early spring heat days prepared the grapes to take on an August heat wave, which resulted in fabulous phenolic ripeness across the board. The wine spent two years in 24 months in new French oak barrels.Tasted: 16 August 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
