Unsworth Vineyards Cowichan Valley Pinot Gris 2023
Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaA restrained, mineral-driven pinot gris that's Cowichan through and through. It's awash in oyster shell and chalk, backed by zesty lemon, Bartlett pear, and white blossoms. There's real verve here, with a precision to the palate that speaks both to purpose and poise. Recommended and excellent value.Tasted: 23 August 2024Tasted by: Prices:
Unsworth Vineyards Cowichan Valley Pinot Gris 2023
Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaThe Unsworth style is not for everyone unless you are a fan of purity and precision, which happens to be the signature of its pinot gris, a wine that can transport you to northern Italy and its magical pinot grigio zone, Fruili. Look for a lean, taut, mineral scented white full of crunchy fresh greens dusted in saline notes. A true oyster slayer. Three Cowichan vineyards are home to this tasty gris (a mix of clones 52 and 53). Unsworth, Zanatta, and Saison Vineyard each share a unique mix of marine silts and loams. Ten percent goes into neutral barriques before it all rests for five months on its lees.Tasted: 21 July 2024Tasted by: Prices:
Unsworth Vineyards Cowichan Valley Pinot Gris 2023
Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaUnsworth's classic Cowichan Valley Pinot Gris sources fruit (clones 52, 53) from Unsworth Vineyard, Zanatta Vineyard, and Saison Vineyard, all in the Valley's marine silts and loams. This was whole cluster pressed and fermented primarily in stainless, with 10% in neutral barriques. All rested for 5 months on lees prior to bottling. Perfumed pear blossoms, crunchy Asian pear, honeydew melon flood the juicy, lean (12.3%) palate, buzzing with a subtle underlying stoniness. Lovely balance and harmony here, in one of the Island's top PGs.Tasted: 09 July 2024Tasted by: Prices:
