Spearhead Pinot Noir Golden Retreat Vineyard 2021

Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaCrafted from grapes sourced from Golden Retreat Vineyard in Summerland, this pinot noir is made with clones 667, Pommard, 115, and 777. Fermentation began spontaneously, and the wine was aged for 13 months in French oak barrels (25% new), with spring malolactic fermentation adding to its complexity and depth. The nose, which I personally quite like, has evolved since tasting a year ago, now revealing a more developed, savoury profile with notes of five spice, black tea, tobacco, cinnamon stick, and a hint of slightly charred wood, all over a base of ripe red and dark fruit. The tannins are still well framed, providing a solid structure for further aging. The warmth of the alcohol (14.9%), is a bit more noticeable, yet the wine remains quite balanced.Tasted: 22 July 2024Tasted by: HJ ChaPrices:
