Spearhead Pinot Noir Golden Retreat Vineyard 2019
Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom Summerland's Golden Retreat Vineyard comes one of three single vineyard pinots (plus two multi-site blends) that Spearhead is producing. Every year I am enamoured by the pinot fruit coming out of Summerland, in this case a mix of Pommard, 115, and 777 clones, native fermented with 21 days on the skins before spending 13 months in French oak barrels (25 percent new). It opens with an inviting savoury, spicy, beet, juniper, plum nose with a dash of black raspberry, dark chocolate, and Worcestershire. As always, fresh, even piquant, with a refined, silky finish. I love this with pork or a roasted Tuscan-style pizza. Well made, smoke-free, and ready to impress through 2027 and beyond.Tasted: 14 June 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $33.00 | 750ml | winery direct, vqa, private retail |
