Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label 2019

Coonawarra, South Australia, AustraliaThe Black Label Coonawarra Cab has been a forever classic and a pet project of winemaker Sue Hodder for decades. From the tiny sliver of land that is Coonawarra's red terra rossa (iron oxide clays over limestone), Hodder created this affordable benchmark from 50+ year old organically farmed vines, and in 2019, it was the 64th vintage of the iconic label. The fermentation runs a month in a mix of open and static fermenters before it ages 14 months in French oak (31% new) and a mix of 61/26/13/ hogsheads / barriques / vats. 2019 was a year to remember in Coonawarra, and its ripe cherry, mulberry, blackcurrants, crushed chalk, mint, seawater, and that Coonawarra dried herb styling in the finish tell an amazing story. It will age for decades, but it has the class and balance to be drunk anytime now.Tasted: 12 May 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
