Frescobaldi Castelgiocondo Brunello di Montalcino 2017

Tuscany, ItalyCastelGiocondo sits over varied terrain with many expositions on its galestro, clay, and Pliocene sands. The 2017 winter was mild, with slightly above average temperatures. Summer and spring brought high temperatures and low rainfall, all playing into the site's clay soils that balanced the vines through ripening. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature with frequent early pump-overs. It is then aged in wood for 5 years, plus another 9-12 months in a bottle at the winery. CastelGiocondo has a long history of understated elegance, and 2017 is all that and more. The nose is richly developed, pitching red and black fruit with earthy floral undertones. The texture will grab you, soft and inviting yet full of depth and length, with peppery licorice, black cherries, and mineral toasted notes in the finish. Stylish, round, subtle, and drinkable, a mushroom ragu is the ticket here.Tasted: 03 November 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
