Tuscany, ItalyThe Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Riserva celebrates the Mazzei ancestor who penned the first official document mentioning Chianti in 1398. The label is unique, held together with a wax seal, inviting you to open and view illustrations by young Florentine artists hidden within. This sangiovese is splashed with 10% merlot, coming off the Cornia and Caggiolo vineyards' clay, limestone, and albarese. This aged one year in small French barrels, 50% new. Crushed stones, and dried florals are woven throughout this alluring Riserva, scenting fresh and dried cherry, black raspberry, and dried scrubby herbs. Tannins are fine and firm, and acidity is bright and stony, carrying this to a salt-dotted finish.
