Tuscany, ItalySer Lapo is a 90/10 mix of sangiovese and merlot that, in 2018, is something to behold. HJ called it seamless, and Treve mentioned its stony acidity, which leads me to a wine that is effortlessly complex yet inviting. The fruit is round and lush, offering dark cherry, all of which take on its 50 percent new oak, adding yet another layer of weight and complexity without interfering with its heritage. It is a drink or hold wine, depending on how much fruit you like in your Chianti. Impressive for the price.Tasted: 12 August 2022Tasted by: Prices:

Tuscany, ItalyThe Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Riserva celebrates the Mazzei ancestor who penned the first official document mentioning Chianti in 1398. The label is quite unique, held together with a wax seal, inviting you to open and view illustrations by young Florentine artists hidden within. This sangiovese is splashed with 10% merlot, coming off the Cornia and Caggiolo vineyards' clay, limestone, and albarese. This aged 1 year in small French barrels, 50% new. Ripe and plush black cherry, raspberry is layered with flake salts, dried florals, and dried thyme, all lit with a lifted stony acidity, and housed with long, finely sticky tannins. There's a lovely balance to this finessed wine, drinking smartly in youth, but will reward with cellaring.Tasted: 20 August 2022Tasted by: Prices:

Tuscany, ItalyA 90/10 blend of sangiovese and merlot from Cornia and Caggiolo, this complex, seamless Chianti Classico Riserva shows a lifted nose of dark berries, sundried tomato, and cedar, with just a hint of oak spices from the judicial use of French barriques and puncheons. The concentrated fruit effortlessly carries the 50 percent new wood, benefiting from vines ranging from 15 to 30 years old. Rich and supple, this is just beginning to enter its prime drinking window, with a woody grip to the finish. A beautiful expression of Chianti Classico.Tasted: 05 September 2022Tasted by: Prices:
