Tuscany, ItalyA nice uptick for a wine that sometimes can be disjointed in the sense of being overbearing for a Chianti. Not so in 2019. I love the earthy herbal undernotes that stage for more decadent, darker black raspberry and slippery but structured tannins. A sense of elegance balances it as it rides out a lingering, fresh, mineral finish. There is no rush to drink this, as it will effortlessly age through 2027. Osso buco would be a fine match. Good value.Tasted: 30 June 2023Tasted by: Prices:

Tuscany, ItalyThe Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Riserva celebrates the Mazzei ancestor who penned the first official document mentioning Chianti in 1398. The label is unique, held together with a wax seal, inviting you to open and view illustrations by young Florentine artists hidden within. This sangiovese is splashed with 10% merlot, coming off the Cornia and Caggiolo vineyards' clay, limestone, and albarese. This aged one year in small French barrels, 50% new. Crushed stones, and dried florals are woven throughout this alluring Riserva, scenting fresh and dried cherry, black raspberry, and dried scrubby herbs. Tannins are fine and firm, and acidity is bright and stony, carrying this to a salt-dotted finish. Very impressive now, this finessed wine will reward with cellaring.Tasted: 01 August 2023Tasted by: Prices:
