Quails' Gate Chardonnay Rosemary's Block 2019

West Kelowna, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRosemary's Block, as its name alludes to, is a small block of vines that sits above the road just beyond the West Kelowna winery. It bears the name of the family matriarch, Rosemary Stewart, and it has been a stalwart since its release. First launched under winemaker Niki Callaway's reign, the annual bottling remains among the best chardonnays in BC. Although somewhat unassuming on the nose, pitching delicate leesy citrus, it grabs your attention on the palate when the terroir kicks in, talking minerals and wet stones over the perfect tension of acid and fruit. Complex and powerful, it is a statement Okanagan Chardonnay. Clones 809 and 76 are whole cluster pressed and fermented in new and old French oak barrels for 11 months. It goes through complete malolactic fermentation and regular bâtonnage until bottling. This stood out at the recent Chardonnay Classification Tasting at Quails' Gate.Tasted: 10 July 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
