Quails' Gate Chardonnay Rosemary's Block 2016

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRosemary’s Block Chardonnay is dedicated to the Stewart family's mother Rosemary, and was launched to celebrate the winery’s 25th anniversary in 2015. The wine was well received, and renewed again for 2016 as one of three chardy's released from 2016. From two blocks on the base of Mt. Boucherie, an ancient volcano, the grapes were whole-cluster pressed and fermented in new and old French oak barrels for 11 months, with full MLF and on the lees. Tighter and more focused than the flagship Stewart Family Reserve, with tight lemon pith cutting and brightening a creamy base, and hints of flinty reduction giving this interest, and length on the palate. At this youthful stage the wood is a bit too noticeable (as is with all the QG wines), but this has impressive structure that will provide ample opportunity for this to age gracefully. I hope the winery continues in this streamlined direction.Tasted: 22 March 2018Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
