Purple Angel by Montes 2019
Valle del Colchagua, Valle del Rapel, Region del Valle Central, ChilePurple Angel is the Montes flagship carmenere, and in 2019 the mix is from Chile. The colour is almost always opaque, the nose rife with black and blue fruits and dense, sweet tannins on the mid-palate. The style is hedonistic, with baked cherries and candied plums balanced by coffee notes and the savoury bay leaf undercurrent of classic carmenere. Like most years, this wine requires a decade of patience to allow this wine to sing. A singular effort from Chile. It is 92% carmenere split between Apalta and Marchigue, 46% each and 8% petit verdot from Apalta. The fruit is grown on two estate vineyards, Finca de Apalta and the El Arcángel de Marchigüe, in the Colchagua Valley on mostly granitic origin soils with differing clay content and old fluvial and glacial stones.Tasted: 26 April 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $85.99 | 750ml | BCLS |
