Joseph Drouhin Chorey-Lès-Beaune 2020

Beaune, Côte de Beaune, Côte d'Or, Burgundy, FranceChorey-lès-Beaune is a lesser-known village in Côte de Beaune, situated just north of Beaune. Just out of the limelight in Bourgogne usually means a break from the oppressive prices plaguing modern Bourgogne. The grapes are crushed, macerated, and fermented over two or three weeks before heading to barrel (10% in new oak) for 12 to 15 months. Look for an enticing balanced style of juicy red and black fruits with a scent of earth and underbrush. On the palate, more blackberry, black cherry jumps to the forefront with a dry, savoury back end. Just complex enough so that you can drink it or hold it through 2025. The vineyard at Chorey-lès-Beaune was first planted in 1237 by Edouard de Froment, the Duke of Bourgogne's step-nephew. Drouhin owns 3.25 acres of Chorey that wraps around the foot of the hill of Corton. The vine's average is 53 years old, and it was first farmed organically in 1990 before converting to biodynamic cultivation in the mid-1990s. They crush both domain fruit and purchased grapes from suppliers on long-term contracts.Tasted: 26 February 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
