Maçanita Vinhos Letra F Os Canivéis 2019

Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalLetra F refers to the last letter in the grade for the categorization system for port grapes in the Douro, where Letra A is the best. Though the F grade were historically seen as the worst for port wine, and thus neglected, these old vines are proving a treasure trove for showing wines of place today. The 2019 Tinto Os Canivéis is a field blend from old vines (80 to 90+ years) aged for 12 months in used French oak. Wild black fruits, thorns, are darted with dark florals and studded with mineral salts. The schistous grip holds this structural wine firm with long, fine tannins, while the acidity and old vines provide a natural grace and lift. The whole is quite beguiling, drinking beautifully now and with time ahead.Tasted: 11 January 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
