Kirkland Signature Gigondas 2020

FranceGigondas is a magical wine, and to find this bargain on vacation in what is usually a wasteland for wine is pretty satisfying. The Kirkland Signature Gigondas is, first and foremost, authentic. The 85/10/5 mix of grenache, syrah and mourvèdre is made by Guillaume Gonnet, whose family winery is Domaine Font de Michelle. It begins with a fine vintage in which the fruit was quickly ripened. There is an inviting roundness and an inviting dusting of garrigue that interacts with a wealth of cherries and black raspberries with a touch of smoked meat and mushroom. Not quite as intense as the best of the appellation, but for the price, this wine over-delivers, including a licorice, mineral, and wet stone back end. Drink or hold for the next decade; there is no rush.Tasted: 29 December 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
