Las Moradas de San Martin Initio 2017

Vinos de Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, SpainLas Moradas de San Martin sits at nearly 900 metres above sea level, on the fringes of the Sierra de Gredos, southeast of Madrid. This is an exceptional red wine full of dark plum and intense strawberry streaked with a line of high desert scrub. Fresh and bright, this has a modicum of tannin that will disperse over the next three to five years. There is delicious complexity in this mountain red. Only twenty-one hectares of vineyards surround the winery, but what vines they are. Initio comes from old bush vine garnacha, some as aged as 100+ years old, high and organically dry farmed in granitic sandy soils. Seven days of cold maceration precede a native ferment over three weeks, prior to 14 months in French oak barrels. The final blend is bottled without fining or filtration.Tasted: 28 January 2023Tasted by: Prices:
